A week ago I published a blog titled "Why You Need To Know How Much You Are Eating!!". I talked about how many people eat more calories than they unwittingly know about, causing weight gain.
Well, I'm here to tell you today that may not actually be the case.
It's ok, Phil the minion, let me explain.
For most people tracking their food day in and day out, recording it to a smart phone app or website can be extremely time-consuming and challenging.
I get it. You're busy.
Well not to worry. Dr. John Berardi of Precision Nutrition created a tremendous method to eating exactly the right amount of food all the while never having to record a single morsel.
But how can that be?!
Most of us walk around with two hands. And those hands are in proportion to our body size. Dr. Berardi thought up an ingenious method using our two hands to determine the portion sizes of the macronutrients each one of us need on a daily basis.
I have taught this method to my clients for several years now and have had several clients see great results while never counting a single calorie. Here is just one of my clients who followed this model and remained consistent day in and day out:
As you can see, for someone who isn't following a specific eating plan, simply applying these portion control concepts using your hand as a guide can be extremely beneficial!!
So does one use their hand as a portion control guide? I'm glad you asked. Here is the infograph to know exactly how much you need to eat:
As you can see the portions are scalable. And once you get on the plan they can be adjusted for various circumstances. And don't freak out about the amount of calories it says you are eating. For most people I have worked they actually need to eat more than what they expect. In the photo of my client above, she was eating more food than she was before she met me. And her results speak for themselves.
And for clients of mine, I give precise instruction on how to alter these portions based on your specific goals, stress levels, activity levels and even measurements and lab work. This can speed up your results as they are tailor made for you. *Something I did for the gal in the picture.
So if you are ready to lose some weight - or gain muscle - or both - give this method a whirl. If you are consistent and follow the plan I'm sure you will see great results!
And don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions about what portions you should be eating.
